Episode 1 "A Soldier Is Born"

Prologue 


The year 2238....... 




Rockman,an ordinary robot,was walking down the streets of MegaTokyo,doing 
some shopping.His owner,a talented biologist by the name of Dr. Johann Cain,
had asked him to pick up a new power chip for a hoverbot he was working on.
Rockman was dressed in a light blue shirt,dark blue shorts,and turqoise boots,
his brown hair ruffled softly in the breeze.He saw a cool computer in the window 
of a store,but soon,he heard a human yelling for help. 
Rockman ran around a nearby corner,and saw a strange Reploid terrorizing a 
citizen. Reploids were new robots that were able to think for themselves,
based upon 
Rockman's own designs.Rockman had been found by Dr.Cain,wandering around in 
an abandoned factory, with no memory of his past.Cain took in Rockman,and 
Rockman had gone to work being Cain's assistant.The humans took well to the 
new Reploids,but recently,reports had come in of Reploids that went bad. 
Rockman cursed softly to himself. "He's too powerful for me..." 
Just then,a shimmering figure materialized beside him. "Rockman,you must help 
that human!" 
Rockman looked at the shimmering man.He wore a white labcoat,and has a thick,
snowy white beard and hair. "What?Who are you?" 
"You may call me...‘Light'." the shimmering man replied. "You are needed to protect 
humans from the evil Reploids." 
Rockman said "I want to....but I'm not built for combat!" 
Light nodded. "I have a tool to help you out.It's a weapon called an X-Buster.You 
can use it to fight those Reploids!" A blue arm module appeared out of nowhere,
landing next to Rockman. "Place it on your arm,hold it up,and yell ‘X-Buster 
Power!'It is your destiny to preserve the peace!You are Megaman X!" 
Rockman thought this was odd,or that maybe he might be suffering from a malfunctioning 
microchip.But he knew that Reploid was starting to harm the human it was terrorizing,
and that itself was against the rule of robotics;a robot must not harm a human.He put 
on the X-Buster,and yelled "X-Buster Power!" 
A lightshow surrounded Rockman,and when it stopped,he saw that he was now wearing armor 
that was various shades of blue. He saw his reflection in a store window,and saw he had 
a helmet on his head,that had blue and white designs,and a red jewel on the center of 
it's forehead.He turned to the Reploid. "Back away from that human now!" 
The Reploid,a junky looking robot,yelled "Who the heck are you?!?" 
"I....um..." Rockman thought fast,gathering his courage. "I am Megaman X,Champion of 
Earth!And you're scrap metal!" 
Junk Reploid snickered. "If you're a champion,dodge this!!" he picked up a pipe,and 
threw it at Megaman X. 



Chapter One 



Megaman X dived for cover,doing a tuck and roll,and came up shooting,putting a hole in 
the Junk Reploid's forehead. "Wow,did I do that?" 
Junk Reploid collapsed to the ground,leaking fluids onto the pavement. "Urrggghhh...." 
The human ran for safe cover as the Junk Reploid exploded. 
The human looked to his robotic savior,but the new robot named ‘Megaman X' had 
disappeared. "Who was that robot????" the guy wondered. 






In a strange,underground base..... 




A strange robot named Armored Armadillo blinked,at the strange wave of static that 
came over his monitor.He'd been watching his Junk Reploid try to abduct the human 
male,but then,that odd blue robot showed up and static soon appeared. "What on 
earth....?!?!?" he gasped. "What happened???" 
From elsewhere in the room,an evil voice asked "What is the status report,Armored 
Armadillo?" 
Armadillo turned,and kneeled. "Lord Sigma...my Junk Reploid was about to kidnap the 
human who we suspected of having the data disk we need,but...for some reason,we 
lost contact...some kind of interference." 
Sigma,a tall,fearsome looking robot,nodded slowly. "Ok.I want you to wait a day,and 
then send another Reploid out.That data disk is essential to our mission to show 
the humans that they are limiting the growth of our race,and that they are inferior 
to the power of the Mavericks!" 
Armadillo nodded. "Yes,Lord Sigma.I live to serve." 





Rockman had gotten back to Dr.Cain's lab a little while later,and told him what had 
happened. "I see..." Cain nodded. "I will help you in any way that I can,and I'll 
keep the secret.I feel very much responsible for the trouble the recent Reploids are 
causing.I fear,in that trying to share your special qualities,so that they may benefit 
the world,may have brought much danger.I'm more skilled at biology than I am at 
robotics...I have done great harm,and I must atone." 
Rockman listened to all this,and said "I can understand what you mean,but you were 
trying to help mankind benefit,not self-destruct.What matters is that your intentions 
were noble,and that you wish to help correct the unexpected results of your intentions." 
Cain sighed. "Thanks.You should get some rest for now.I imagine that we'll hear about 
the incident on the news soon enough." 





Chapter Two 




And sure enough,that night even,the media of MegaTokyo was all over the news that a 
robot named Megaman X was fighting for justice.One individual was a shy robot with 
blond hair,that murmured "Champion of Earth?That's odd..." 
He went on his way,disappearing into the crowd of humans and Reploids that were on 
their way to their jobs. 




     Elsewhere,a day later..... 




Armored Armadillo kneeled before Sigma. "I have an idea for finding the data disk we 
need." 
"Oh?" Sigma asked,seated on his throne. 
Armadillo nodded. "Yes.The citizens of MegaTokyo pride themselves on their high level 
of schoolastic education,sometimes to the point that they don't excercise often enough 
to save thier health. Whoever made the data we seek,might be heavyset and lethargic 
from sitting in front of a computer all day,working on the data.As such,a person of 
heavy build would fit the description of the long periods of time it would take to 
research and write such data." 
Sigma gave a rare smile. "You don't like the humans much, do you?" 
Armadillo replied "I have given myself to your cause,and the humans are a threat to 
that cause." 
"Excellent." Sigma said after a moment. "See that you do not sway from that cause." 
"Yes,my master." Armadillo rose,and summoned a new Reploid,one that had a car motor 
built into it's wide chest. "My Motor Reploid will find that individual." 
"And what of this mysterious ‘Megaman X',who interfered last time?" Sigma asked,
purposely sounding only slightly curious. 
Armored Armadillo's eyes widened involuntarily,but he said "If he shows up again,I 
will intercede and eliminate him." 
Sigma waited a painfully long moment,before saying "You may proceed,Armored Armadillo." 






Later that day,Rockman was working on a computer program for studying prehistoric 
plant life. "And the plants of earth absorb water,using the nutrients to grow." 
Dr.Cain nodded. "Basically put,yes.There are many parts to carbon-based lifeforms 
that,in ways,are similar to robots." 
"But a robot doesn't need water." Rockman said. 
Cain smiled,and said "Well....think of it this way....a robot runs on energy.It uses 
the energy to power it,as a plant needs water to power it.The plant needs soil to 
help it grow,and a robot has the need of the services of a human to help upgrade it's 
programming,to grow to it's full potential." 
"I see." Rockman nodded. "That's some pretty deep stuff, Dr.Cain." 
"Well,it got me my degree in biology." Cain blushed,a trifle embarrased. 
Rockman smiled,conceeding defeat. "Your reputation is secure." 
There was a beeping on Rockman's arm. 
Rockman pressed the button on his watch. "Yes,Light?" 
The shimmering image of ‘Light' appeared. "Rockman,I was going over the news reports,
and I was wondering,are the police taking any measures of preventing any more of these 
so-called ‘mad Reploid' incidents?I can find little information about it." 
Cain shrugged. "There's some talk of a police force being assembled to specialize in 
dealing with the wayward Reploids,but not a whole lot has come of it." 
"You mean they're just sitting there ignoring it,hoping it'll just go away?" Light asked. 
Cain sighed. "They try to put a pretty face on it,Light,but that's the grim reality of it." 
The nearby console beeped loudly.Rockman went over to it. "Oh,no!Another mad Reploid incident!" 
"Rockman,you must stop it!" Light said. 
Rockman nodded. "X-Buster Power!" 




Chapter Three 



A heavyset man dressed in a neat,office suit,was backed against a wall,holding a notebook. 
"I don't know what you're talking about!!!" 
Motor Reploid growled. "You know what I want!Give me your data program!!" 
"No!I wrote this wedding song for my girlfriend,and you're not getting it!" the heavyset 
guy cried. 
Motor Reploid raised an arm to strike the man,but a fast warning shot wizzed past his 
upraised arm. "Who's there?!?" 
"How dare you try to harm that poor man!I am Megaman X!In the name of Earth,I will punish 
you!" Megaman X leapt out from an alley. "Leave him alone!" 
Motor Reploid snarled "What do you care?Get lost,little blue boy!" He raised his arm,a 
blaster in hand,but,out of nowhere,a small red dart shot out,hitting the blaster,knocking 
it out of Motor Reploid's hand,and nailing it into the ground. "Now what?!?!?" 
Motor Reploid,Megaman X,and the heavyset man all looked up to a nearby building ledge.There 
was a red robot standing there,he had piercing blue eyes,red and white armor,and long blond 
hair in a ponytail coming out the back of his stylish red and white helmet. "Only an evil 
coward would threaten to destroy a man's hopes and dreams for the future!You're disgusting!" 
Motor Reploid snapped angrily "Mind your own business, ponytail boy!" He grabbed a nearby 
garbage can,throwing at the red robot. 
"My name....is Zero!" The red robot leapt into the air.He grabbed a small cylinder on his 
shoulder,and swung it.A beam of light leapt out of it,forming a lightsaber.He cut the garbage 
can in half,the garbage spewing onto Motor Reploid. "Now's your chance,X!" Zero encouraged. 
Megaman X,a bit confused,managed to nod,and aimed at Motor Reploid.He fired,blasting the 
robot's left arm off. "Gaaahhh!!!" 
Motor Reploid ran off,and Zero chased him. 
"Take care of the human!" Zero said as he left. 





Zero found Motor Reploid running for a nearby Mech,a big armored robot suit,with big arms,
designed for heavy lifting. "No way I'm letting you get that!" he fired a shot,but missed. 
Motor Reploid leapt into the air,landing in the Mech. "Ha Ha Ha!!!You are finished!!!" He 
made the Mech swing a punch,which would have been quite a whallop if it had hit.But Zero 
had leapt right over the huge fist.He activated his lightsaber in mid-jump,cutting the 
Mech's arm off at the shoulder.As he landed behind the Mech,Zero spun and fired,blasting 
a hole through the Mech's back,through the chest of Motor Reploid,and right out the front 
of the big Mech's torso. "Aaarrrgghhhh!!!!!" Motor Reploid howled as it and the Mech began 
to explode. 




Megaman X had led the heavyset man to safety,and was about to leave,when a voice said "So,
you are the one who has been messing with my flawless plans." Megaman X spun to see a robot,
an odd sort of armadillo,wearing plated armor. "That will come to an end now!" 
"Never!" Megaman X fired a shot at the Armored Armadillo. He smiled,amused,and held out his 
left arm.Megaman X's shot hit the armor,and bounced off harmlessly. "Wha...?" 
Armored Armadillo grinned. "You're powerless." 
Megaman X leapt forward,aiming a kick at the evil robot.It was then that Armored Armadillo 
extended his arm,a slightly visable, blue force field appeared,knocking Megaman X backwards. 
"Aaahhh!!" 
Megaman X looked up,scared,as Armored Armadillo advanced,an evil smirk on his face. 
"You should never interfere with the Mavericks." Armored Armadillo said icily. "We are superior.
" He kept advancing menacingly. 
Megaman X was paralyzed with fear.The Maverick was only two feet away,when a familiar red 
dart smacked the ground,only a mere few centimeters infront of Armadillo's left foot. "Hmm...
your friend is back. I'll deal with you two later!" He waved his hand,a black hole appeared 
behind him.He stepped into it,and vanished. 
Megaman X turned to see Zero standing on a rooftop. "You are not alone,X!You have allies,
now!I'm one of them!" he turned,and he was gone. 
Megaman X smiled slightly,and went home. 


Epilogue 



Light and Cain listened to what Rockman told them. "They call themselves ‘Mavericks'?" 
Light asked.Rockman nodded. 
"You said they were looking for data?And,this...‘Zero' fellow helped you?" Cain asked. 
"Yes." Rockman said. "I don't know his angle,but he's no friend of the Mavericks.He also 
said he's my ally,and that there are other allies." 
Light replied "If so,the help would be welcome....but stay alert.These Mavericks will also 
have allies." 
Cain agreed. "That's right.If they say they are superior,they will obviously have greater 
numbers that we know of.I fear our battle with them may only be just beginning." 
"I'll do everything I can to stop them." Rockman promised. 




Sigma looked up as Armored Armadillo entered the throne room. "Report." Sigma bade. 
"My lord,even though the data was not what we were after, that robotic meddler, Megaman 
X showed up." Armadillo said. "And some other robot interfered." 
Sigma stroked his chin thoughtfully. "So,what you wish to say,is that you failed to destroy 
Megaman X." 
"Yes,my lord." Armadillo was worried. "He seems to be competent fighting Reploids,but 
unsure of himself when confronted with a Maverick." 
"Interesting." Sigma replied. "He may not be such a worthy opponent then.We will test 
him more.Meanwhile,I want you to search for the data.I warn you,I want results.You are 
not indespensible, many Mavericks would kill to have your position in my quest.Is that 
clear?" 
Armadillo nodded,shaken,but answered "Yes,my lord.My life is to serve you."
