Metal Soldier Megaman X 
Episode 2 "Maverick Hunters"

Chapter One 



A few days later,the police of MegaTokyo announced that an elite force of Reploids 
would organize a special police force to deal with the Mavericks,called ‘Maverick 
Hunters'.Rockman saw this on the news,and said "Maybe I should join them." 
Dr.Johann Cain stroked his beard,a habit he picked up from the myterious Light. "Well,
it might be good,but I think we should wait a bit,to see how the group does against the 
Mavericks." 
The shimmering blue image of Light,Rockman's mysterious guardian,appeared. "Rockman,
I agree with Dr.Cain.Wait a bit,and let's see how the Maverick Hunters handle the Mavericks.
Until then,keep your own Maverick hunting going." 
"Ok." Rockman nodded. "The Mavericks have been quiet of late..." 




In an underground base..... 



Sigma sat on his throne. "Armored Armadillo,report." 
Armored Armadillo walked into the throne room. "My lord,I have my next plan to search 
for the data.I will begin with finding an incredibly smart human female." 
Sigma almost laughed aloud. "What makes you think a mere female could have programmed 
the data we seek?" 
Armadillo replied "Since the end of the 20th century,women have become more independant,
and have even made some technical and business advancements that are better than those 
put forth by males....at least,for humans,that is.No female is superior to any of the 
Mavericks." 
"If you think that is the case,then you may proceed." Sigma allowed. "But stay alert.
We have stayed back a bit,due to that recent troublemaker,Megaman X,but we must proceed 
soon." 




Rockman was out and about town,lost in thought.He was not sure if the rise of the 
Maverick Hunters would end his mission to stop the Mavericks,and that bothered him.
True,he didn't like fighting, but if he had to,to protect kind humans like Dr.Cain,
he'd do it.He was rounding the corner,and was so lost in thought,he walked right into 
another robot,and he fell down on his butt. "Ow!" He looked up to see a shy looking,
blond robot. 
"Oh,I'm sorry...you ok?" the blond helped him up. 
Rockman dusted off his shorts. "Yeah,thanks.I'm sorry.I just had a lot on my positronic 
relays." 
"Don't worry about it.You're not the only one." the blond said. "Take care." 
Rockman watched the blond go,and went back to his walk and musings. 
However,the blond looked back after another moment.Why do I get the feeling I know 
that robot....? 




A few blocks away,a girl robot walked out of an small office building.She had long 
brown hair,pretty blue eyes,and a decent figure. But she was wearing stylish glasses,
a sign of intellectualism.The lone guard at the door said "Good night,Lilly." 
Lilly nodded. "Good night,Lann.Thanks for the help on my new program!" 
Lann nodded. "Glad to help,Lilly." 
Lilly hummed happily.She was walking to her hovercar,but then Armored Armadillo and a 
winged Reploid stepped out of an alley. 
"All right!Hand over your data!" Winged Reploid demanded. 
"What?" Lilly panicked. "You must be a data thief!" 
Armadillo smirked. "Of sorts...now hand it over!!" 
Lilly ran forward,and kicked the Winged Reploid. "You're not getting my data!" 
"Aaahhhh!!!" Winged Reploid crashed into a trash can. 
Armadillo yelled "I have no time to play with girls!" he thrust out his hand,and his 
force field weapon knocked Lilly over.He stepped over to her,and took her purse. "If 
it's any consolation,you were beaten by a Maverick,so don't expect that you were going 
to win." 
Just then,Zero appeared. "So,you even pick on girls to advance your pathetic career?
You Mavericks are really low!" 
Lilly looked at Zero,and got starry-eyed. "What a hunk....." 
Armored Armadillo turned to run,as Megaman X just arrived. "Winged Reploid,finish them!" 
Zero looked at Megaman X quickly and said "X,take out that Reploid,I'll chase the 
Maverick!" and was off. 




Chapter Two 





Megaman X took a stance. "All right,Reploid.You want a fight,you got one!On behalf of 
Earth,you're punished!" 
Winged Reploid laughed. "You don't stand a chance,blue boy!" He jumped into the air,and 
did a dive at Megaman X,firing his 

arm cannon. "Take this!" 
Megaman X dived for cover,and yelled to Lilly "Find some shelter!" 
Winged Reploid took advantage of the distraction,and scored a shot on Megaman X's shoulder. 
"Gotcha!!" 
Megaman X held his injured shoulder. "Urrkkk!" 
Winged Reploid advanced on him. "You're out of luck,blue boy!" he aimed his arm cannon 
at him. "This game is over!" 
But then,Lilly was in back of him,surprisingly lifting Winged Reploid off the ground 
and into the air. "New player joining in,and you are out of tokens!" 
The shimmering image of Light appeared briefly next to Megaman X.At the same time,a 
strange,glowing flower appeared for a second on Lilly's forehead,then was gone. "Megaman 
X,she's an ally! Protect her!" 
Lilly threw Winged Reploid a few feet away,he hit a parked car. "Loser!" 
Winged Reploid was starting to get back up. "I'm...not out yet!" 
Light addressed Iris. "Lilly,take this watch,and yell ‘Iris Power'!Megaman X needs 
your help!!" 
Lilly asked "A watch?" 
Light nodded. "Yes,please hurry!That Reploid must be stopped!" 
Lilly put on the watch,and yelled "Iris Power!!" A burst of light appeared,and when it 
cleared,she was wearing a red and blue armored dress,and her watch had turned into a 
Plasma Cannon. "Ok, Reploid,you're history!!I am Iris,and I will destroy you,in the name 
of Peace!!" She fired a shot,blasting off Winged Reploid's wings. 
"Gaaaggghhh!!!" Winged Reploid yelled. 
Light turned to Megaman X. "Okay,finish him off!!" 
Megaman X nodded. "Eat my X-Buster!" He fired,and Winged Reploid exploded. 
"Thanks for your help,Iris." Megaman X smiled. 
Iris nodded. "But what happened to the other guy?" 
"Zero..." Megaman X looked off in the direction Zero had gone. 


Armored Armadillo fired a energy blast from a hidden gun on his forehead.Zero dodged,and 
said "Give the girl's purse back!" 
Armadillo laughed. "No way!I need this data!" he withdrew a disk from the purse.He gasped 
as he read the label. "‘Tips on how to capture a man'?!?!?AGGGHHH!!!" 
Zero laughed. "Everytime I see you,my impressions of the Mavericks sinks even lower." 
Armadillo tossed the disk and purse to the ground,and fired at Zero again. "You are no 
match for a Maverick!" 
Zero jumped over the shot,and scored a punch before the Armadillo could put up his force 
field. "You must not be a Maverick then,they way I keep beating you,loser!" 
Armadillo snarled,and grabbed a nearby pipe,and threw it at Zero. "Shut up!!" 
Zero blasted the pipe,but in the confusion,Armadillo had retreated. "What a reject." 




Zero went back to Megaman X,and Lilly.She had changed back to normal,so Zero didn't know 
she was now an ally,named ‘Iris'. "I got your purse and disk back,miss." 
Lilly blushed beneath her glasses,as he handed them back to her. "Thank you,sir." 
Zero looked to Megaman X. "Are you ok,X?" 
Megaman X nodded. "Yes,I'll be ok.Thanks,Zero." 
Zero saluted. "Anytime,X!" He raced off,and Iris sighed. 
"Wow...he's so dreamy..." Lilly blinked,then looked to Megaman X. "Um,why did you not 
want me to tell him who I am?" 
Megaman X shrugged. "He has helped me a bit,but I am not sure weather or not he's a ally.
He might only be an ally if he's a rival of the Mavericks,but also against the humans.
I want some more time to get to know him better." 
Lilly nodded. "Ok.But I think we can trust him." 
"I do too,but I want to be safe." Megaman X nodded. "I'll take you to see Dr.Cain,my mentor." 


Elsewhere...... 



Sigma said "You have failed again...." 
Armored Armadillo was nervous. "Yes,my lord,however..." 
"Now,a third person has gotten in our way,and you lost another Reploid!" Sigma yelled. 
"You are starting to anger me with your failures!!!" 
Armadillo said "I can't explain it!That Megaman X must have a radar lock on me,my lord!" 
Sigma rasped "I'll supply you with another Reploid,but I want those three dealt with,
permanently!Do you understand?!?!?" 
Armadillo nodded. "Yes,my lord." 




Chapter Three 




Dr.Cain shook Lilly's hand. "Thank you for helping,Lilly.We need some allies in the 
battle with the Mavericks." 
Rockman was typing combat data into the Cain Lab's computer. "This place is cool,
Dr.Cain." Lilly gushed,looking around the lab. 
"Well,it's not much,but it's home." Cain shrugged,a bit unused to compliments. 
Lilly adjusted her glasses,and asked "I'm wondering what kind of data the Mavericks are 
after.They must have overheard me talking to the guard about data I was working on,and they 
attacked me,and demanded I hand over my data." 
Cain nodded. "That does seem to be a common factor in our run-ins,so far." 
Light added "They are specific to not say what type of data, but they do always attack 
people,looking for data." 
Rockman asked "Is it possible that they need combat data to improve their abilites?" 
Light and Cain each stroked their beards in thought. "Well, they do make a point of claiming 
how advanced and superior they are to us..." Cain mused. "Maybe they want to tottaly outpower 
us." 
Light put in "Or,maybe they can't upgrade themselves,and want to build a superior robot that 
they can use to defeat us.In any case,we now know they attack people for data,so that does 
give us some idea of their purpose.Now,we need to figure out what they intend to do with 
whatever data they find." 




The next day,the MegaTokyo Maverick Hunter Base went up,and Reploids were encouraged to 
join,to help destroy the mad Reploids,who were now dubbed as ‘Mavericks',as per a mass 
public statement made by Dr.Cain,involving events he witnessed.Unknown to the rest of the 
world,Cain did not actually witness the events,but he lied to cover the truth that he is 
actively involved in the war against the Mavericks,through Megaman X,and Rockman,Light and 
Iris had agreed that the lie was necessary to take action to protect humans from the Mavericks.
Outside the Maverick Hunter Base,Zero walked up to Chief Signas,the leader of the Maverick 
Hunters. "I wish to take the exam for enterance into the Maverick Hunters." 
Signas looked over the robot,and,not unkindly,said "Are you sure you can handle such a job?" 
Zero nodded. "I'll do whatever it takes to protect human life on earth." 
Signas smiled. "I like your spirit,boy.The exam room is on the fifth floor.There is a test 
of knowledge,and also a simulator test." he extended his hand to the boy. "Good luck,son." 
Zero accepted the handshake. "Thank you,sir." He entered the base,ready to take the test. 




A few days later,Rockman was going over some plants articles that Dr.Cain had written.
He heard an alarm go off,and he checked it. "Maverick incident!" He pressed a communicator 
button on the console. "Lilly,I have a Maverick alert in sector 4!" 
Lilly,who was at her home,replied "Ok,I'm on my way.I'll meet you there." 
Rockman put on his X-Buster. "X-Buster Power!" A funky light show later,he was once again 
the blue armored Champion of Earth,Megaman X.He ran out of the lab. 




Armored Armadillo and his ally,a heavy armored Reploid were breaking open a computer in 
a laboratory.Humans were cowering in terror. "If you claim you got valuable data,you humans 
better not be lying!" Armored Armadillo said. "My Knight Reploid will behead you if you are!" 
"Hold it!" Megaman X yelled. "Your data crunching days are over!I am Megaman X!" 
Iris,in her armored red and blue dress was there too. "And I am Iris!To preserve peace,I 
will destroy all Mavericks!" 
Armored Armadillo growled,as he removed a circuit board from the computer. "Knight Reploid,
get them!!" 
Knight Reploid withdrew a lightsaber,and said "You will kneel before me!" 
Armored Armadillo ran off with the circuit board in hand. Iris ran after him. "Come back 
here!!" 
Megaman X yelled "Iris!" But then,Knight Reploid rushed him.He'd have to take him on,himself.
he fired his X-Buster at him, scoring a hit. 
"Grrr!!!" Knight Reploid swung his lightsaber,missing by a few centimeters.Megaman X swung 
a kick,knocking the Knight Reploid back a few steps.He fired again,and knocked Knight Reploid 
down,but the Reploid was still alive,struggling to get up. 
An office employee,a younger man ran up to Megaman X. "Megaman X,please take this!" 
Megaman X looked at it,a microchip. "What is it?" 
The employee,Zack Hanner,said "It's a program I was making for a Reploid!I think it's what 
they were after.It'll allow you to do a fiery uppercut!It's very powerful,you can use it to 
destroy that metal menace!" 
Megaman X nodded,and installed it into his X-Buster. "Thanks!" 
Knight Reploid got back up,and yelled "You're dead!" 
As the Reploid swung a slash,Megaman X ducked,and came up with the fiery uppercut. 
"Shoryuken!!!!" His fist was surrounded by flames,and the uppercut took Knight Reploid's 
head off,and the dead Reploid's body vaporized.Megaman X looked to Zack. "Thank you." 
Zack nodded. "I'm just glad I could help out.if you ever need a new upgrade,give me a 
holler." he passed his business card to Megaman X. 
Megaman X filed the data into his memory. "I'll keep your offer in mind.I gotta help my 
friend." he ran out to find Iris. 





Iris swung a punch at Armored Armadillo,and the Maverick dodged,but his punch missed her,
too. "Hold still,you wretched girl!" 
"Not on your life!" She spun away,and fired a Plasma Shot at him.He deflected it with his 
armored plating,and fired his forehead cannon.She dodged it,but the nearness of it knocked 
her down. "Oh!" 
Armadillo grinned. "Looks like you need to go back to the kiddie school!" He moved in closer,
but a red dart smacked into the ground infront of him. "Aw,crap!" 
Zero stood nearby. "So,you have once again decided upon harassing a young girl?You need a 
new job.As my new authority as a Maverick Hunter,I am placing you under arrest!" 
Armadillo glared at Zero,forgetting about Iris for the time being. "So,you got accepted 
into the elite police force." 
Zero nodded. "Either surrender,or I will destroy you." 
"Sorry,I'm not ready to surrender yet." Armadillo replied. "But I will come back for you." 
He opened a portal,and teleported away. 
Iris looked to Zero. "Thank you,officer." 
Zero's gaze locked on hers. "Have we met before?" 
Iris,remembering he didn't know her yet in her new identity, said "I don't think so...but 
I'm grateful for your help." 
Megaman X showed up then. "You two ok?" 
Zero nodded. "Armadillo got away again.The guy's a very slippery one." 
Megaman X sighed. "He'll be back...he always is.Anyways, thanks for helping Iris." 
"Friend of yours?" Zero asked. 
Megaman X nodded. "Yes.This is Iris,she's been helping me fight the Mavericks." 
Zero's gaze went back to Iris. "You must be quite skilled if X chose you to help.But be 
careful,Iris,these Mavericks are not playing games.If you two need any assistance,contact 
me,I'm now a official Maverick Hunter.Take care,X!" He turned and left. 
"What a hunk...." Iris sighed. 





Epilogue 


Sigma glared at  Armored Armadillo. "You have attracted the attention of those Maverick 
Hunters!They will be in our way now!" 
"I can explain..." Armadillo tried. 
"Silence!" Sigma yelled. "I will have the circuit board you brought back analyzed.Wait here 
while I go decide your fate." Sigma turned and left. 
Armadillo growled softly. "Megaman X will pay for this,if I survive!!!"
